Remembering
Dozer Days
On
June 2nd, 2007 Wingra Stone and Wingra Redi-Mix Inc. hosted what
would be their final “Day of the Dozer” event. For
the past 15 years this event has brought great joy to 1,000’s
of people, young and old.
Dozer Days was a day when kids
of all ages were able to ride or operate large pieces of construction
equipment, while at the same
time help raise money for a local charity, Thursday’s Child.
All of the money – 100% - from food sales, admission, and
sale of hats & T-shirts went to Thursday’s Child.
The Wingra employees, volunteers and sponsors dedication was phenomenal.
Everyone involved did above and beyond what was necessary to make
this event
a tremendous success. As the years went by the crowds
grew larger. The amount of money raised each year also grew,
by the end of 15 years Wingra has donated over $308,000 to
Thursday’s Child.
Verona
Little League Baseball-Softball Complex
Wingra
genero usly contributed time, material and money to The Verona
Little League which opened its 2006 season at a new $1.7 million
Verona Little League Park. The four-diamond
complex includes lights, dugouts, outfield fencing, scoreboards,
bleachers, batting cages, a two-story
concession area and the feel of a big-league park. The main
field has a brick backstop wall resembling Wrigley Field in Chicago.
It serves approximately 30 teams and 350 kids.
United Way
Wingra employees participate yearly in
United Way's fundraising campaign, which provides funding to a
variety of programs that address needs in
the community. Verona Wildcat Softball Field of Dreams Verona
Area School District has one of the State's top girls's softball
programs and is in the process of building two softball fields.
Wingra supported this effort by providing concrete for the dugouts. Friends
of Fitchburg Kids Crossing Wingra donated gravel and concrete in support of the Fitchburg
Kids Crossing project.
